Statement #1--Moving PIRSA Forward
I would really like to increase involvement within PIRSA Extramurals. I believe that we have an enormous opportunity to show the state what we have to offer, and I feel like the majority of the time, schools aren't taking advantage of it. Currently, we offer Volleyball, Flag Football and Basketball as extramural tournaments. Another sport that I have seen gain popularity, especially at Bucknell, is Soccer. Incorporating Soccer into the "schedule of events" each year will allow us to reach out to a perhaps, different student background, as soccer is played throughout the world. Another thing that I would love to be able offer to PIRSA is hosting a Flag Football Officials or Basketball workshop at Bucknell or surrounding area school. Offering this out to surrounding schools would be a huge help in the development of student staff. University of Georgia does a Flag Football workshop every year, and they bring in close to 150+ students each year. Being able to bring something like that to surrounding schools in Pennsylvania would be a huge benefit for them and for PIRSA.
Statement #2--What makes you the best candidate?
I have a lot of passion when it comes to Intramurals and Campus Recreation. When I landed my first part time job within Campus Rec as an Intramural Official, I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Having been a CR professional for 7 years now, I feel I am ready to take on a leadership role within PIRSA. I may only have been in Pennsylvania for 7 months, but I immediately got started on the Extramural committee as soon as I began at Bucknell, and I believe I have made a enormous impact on that team. I am someone who is a go-getter and refuses to quit. I work extremely hard each and every day for my students to ensure that they are happy with the outcome and follow-through of our programs. I have spent a lot of my time training our student staff to understand all the policies, procedures, and rules for all of our sports. I have implemented several rule changes in order to follow NIRSA guidelines, and I've heard nothing but great things from my staff and other students. Furthermore, following our Flag Football Championship, I had a number of players/students come up to me, shake my hand, and thank me for everything that I have done. They expressed that they've never had a more enjoyable time playing Intramural sports than they have this semester. I believe I can make a huge impact on this leadership team and I believe I will have a lot to contribute to PIRSA going forward.
