Sean Ryan, Dickinson College
Title: Associate Director of Fraternity Life and Experiential Leadership Education
Years in Current Position: 3
Years as a NIRSA Member: 3
Years in Collegiate Recreation: 3
Statement #1--Moving PIRSA Forward
This past year I had the honor of hosting PIRSA at Dickinson College where we tried something that we believe no other state association has tired which is that of a virtual ticket. As an association, we have to start thinking outside the box of potential opportunities, programs, and initiatives that we can offer professionals in our state. With budget restraints that are being felt by everyone, we have to continue to serve the needs of our association in a creative mindsight. As new professionals are coming into these positions, and a new generation of students arriving at colleges and universities as a profession we need an association that we can turn to for best practices, or group to provide ongoing professional development throughout the year. I would like to see a webinar series implemented, an online/virtual resource library, book club, article publication, research grants for the field et.
Statement #2--What makes you the best candidate?
I believe that I am qualified for this position because I have a lot of experience serving on different association boards and overseeing conferences. My term as the National Co-Chair for the Student Leadership Programs Knowledge Community is ending this March. In this role, I managed a team of 35 volunteers who provided resources and insight into various programs such as webinar series, podcast production, an annual publication and numerous conference ents for the NASPA annual conference. In regards to NIRSA, I have just appointed as the Co-Chair for the Educational Sessions for this year's Region 1 meeting in Albany. Additionally, I helped coordinate the PIRSA State Drive-in in November of 2019. I have an understanding of what it means to be apart of these teams and how to give back to professionals and what they are looking for in order to be successful in their role.
