Statement #1--What NIRSA PIRSA or organiztional experience do you have that makes you the best candidate to move PIRSA forward?
My experience with NIRSA and PIRSA has given me a deep appreciation for the importance of strategic collaboration and community-building, which are crucial for advancing PIRSA's mission. I’m eager to leverage my skills in communication, organization, and leadership to help strengthen the association’s impact on recreational sports across Pennsylvania. If selected for this role, I have several initiatives I’d like to introduce, including publishing Leadership Team meeting minutes on the PIRSA website, generating more interest and participation in future leadership team elections, and establishing a scholarship committee to provide opportunities for both students and professional staff to attend regional and national conferences. Moreover, I’m passionate about creating more opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students within the state. Engaging this group is vital for the future of recreation. I would advocate for initiatives such as offering free officials' clinics, providing complimentary registration for state workshops, and reintroducing the aforementioned scholarship opportunities. With my strong network within Pennsylvania and communication skills, I’m confident in my ability to drive these efforts forward. I believe these initiatives would significantly enhance student involvement with PIRSA and foster long-term engagement in the field.
Statement #2--What experience do you bring to the position you are applying for?
As Extramural Chair from 2020 to 2022, I established a strong extramural committee made up of over 10 members from across the state. I worked closely with team members from various schools to gather feedback and tailor events to meet the needs of students within the state. In addition to fostering collaboration, I created regular communication channels that enabled us to share best practices and resources, greatly enhancing the member experience. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I successfully shifted to virtual extramural opportunities, including video game tournaments, quiz shows, and social media engagement, keeping students connected statewide. After the pandemic, I helped reinstate in-person extramural tournaments, including basketball and flag football, bringing our community back together. During my tenure as Vice President of PIRSA from 2022-2024 and working on the Region I Conference Committee the last two years, I helped lead a cross-functional team in organizing state and regional conferences, where I coordinated with marketing, logistics, and educational committees to ensure the event ran smoothly. This involved managing the event budget, negotiating with vendors, and ensuring that all necessary resources were available on time. In addition to my event planning experience, I also played a key role in enhancing the monthly PIRSA newsletter by making it more informative and engaging. These experiences have not only honed my leadership, project management, and budgeting skills but also equipped me with a strong network of colleagues across the state. These connections have given me a deep understanding of the opportunities the PIRSA President position requires, and I’m excited to continue building on this foundation.
