Statement #1--Moving PIRSA Forward
PIRSA has done so much already, but two things I would do to help advance PIRSA is focus on engaging newer professionals and fundraising/sponsorship. The Pennsylvania schools have added some fantastic young professionals to their staff. Part of the responsibility of the Vice President is the creation of the newsletter. One way I would look to engage members would be by adding a "Pennsylvania Professional Staff Spotlight" to the newsletter. It is a way to get to know our new colleagues in the state. I would set up a phone call with the new member and ask them questions about themselves and what they want their colleagues to know about them. As someone who was a new professional at one point, I understand the feeling of not knowing who to reach out to when you are new. The newsletter will be a resource for people to connect and learn about the new people in Pennsylvania. The "Pennsylvania Professional Staff Spotlight" would also be a great way to reach out to our veteran professional staff members as well. Part of my job at Temple University is working with clubs to come up with fundraising ideas or gaining sponsorships. I would be able to use those same responsibilities to help boost PIRSA fundraising and sponsorship efforts. There are vendors that I have a relationship with that I could ask to help PIRSA. I am sure that members and their institutions will appreciate not having to spend a lot of money to go to conferences or Extramural tournaments. We would be able to use the vendor's contribution to pay for those events. Through engaging new professionals and fundraising/sponsorships, that is how I plan to advance PIRSA forward.
Statement #2--What makes you the best candidate?
There are a couple of things that make me the best suited for a position on the Executive Board for PIRSA. To the PIRSA board I would bring my experience. There are a couple of significant roles that I have been involved in that makes me best suited for the PIRSA board. I have had the opportunity to work at three Universities, representing every Division level. Bringing that knowledge to the Board can help to make sure that we are considering all perspectives. I have served on other PIRSA committees and was the chair for PIRSA Extramural Committee. I currently working at a school that is involved in City 6 and would bring that to the PIRSA board as well. The purpose of PIRSA is to “promote and enhance the quality of recreational sports in various settings throughout the state.” I have a very diverse background that will help in promoting and enhancing PIRSA. I can help to grow the programs that PIRSA was founded on such as hosting Extramural tournaments, student development, workshops and more. Some of the values that PIRSA are built on are things that I still use in the programs that I am involved in. I would use my experience to help get the message out to people about the State Workshop and programs. I will find ways to get more people involved especially new employees. The state workshop for some people is the only opportunity to learn and network with people from the state. I personally enjoy the state workshop for the chance to network and grow. I would work to try and create more opportunities for recreation leaders to attend or be a part of. Also, working with Pennsylvania leaders to see what they want to see from the Workshop and other programs in the state is important to me and is key in building the programs that PIRSA was built on, and I would use that information to help make the Workshop and other programs beneficial to all who attend. It would be great to serve the members of Pennsylvania by working on the PIRSA board. These are the things that make me the best candidate. Thank you for your time and consideration.
